I guess the blog has been quiet long enough.  Summer is on the way, things are percolating around the area and my desire to write about “Buckwild” is sufficiently muted.

I won’t miss the show (which I never loved), but hope the surviving cast members (including any who might be awaiting trial or sentencing) land on their feet and find employment –preferably outside of porn, if for no other reason than to keep the junior senator from using that as a talking point at a convenient time.

Meanwhile, a few things to update.

Chemical Valley Rollergirls and Heart of Applachia Roller Derby kicked off their seasons in the past several weeks.

CVRG beat River City’s Uncivil Warriors 256 to 76 and H.A.R.D. defeated First Settlement’s Hades Ladies 353 to 93.

Charlie West had another successful year. It looked like a pretty good crowd and I heard some folks raving about Ana Popovic, plus a few grumbles that it all sounded the same.

There’s no accounting for taste.

Tomorrow, the Clay Center releases their fall season. I’m not sure what to think. The spring season wasn’t entirely my thing and I don’t know that I was the only one. If memory serves, there were plenty of seats of Kenny Rogers, Buddy Guy and Lyle Lovett –the latter was kind of heartbreaking.

Last night’s “Mountain Stage” at the Clay Center could have sold better, too.

Obviously, there have been successes. I think Scotty McCreery did well and Old Crow Medicine Show is practically sold-out, but it just seems like the Clay Center isn’t opening up that second balcony so much and you have to believe they want to.

The Clay Center has to pay the bills, keep the lights on, refill the ball pit in the kid zone, etc, etc… and that might compel them to dig up another 80s act, which do sell tickets.

Will this finally be the season when we get REO Speedwagon or Styx? Maybe.

Meanwhile, Adam Harris at “Mountain Stage” announced Sunday night that the radio show would be part of the new season and claimed their show was not to be missed.

What he means by that is anybody’s guess, but I have some ideas of what that could be. My top guess is they might  have  Natalie Maines with or without the Dixie Chicks or even with Emily Robinson and Martie Maguire’s Courtyard Hounds project.

The show has a longtime relationship with  her dad, Lloyd. Maines also has a record out and despite Dixie Chicks songs showing up on country stations for satellite radio, I think Maines and company are in still on the outs with mainstream country music –but are trying to find their way back sort of.

For me, “Mountain Stage” would be a great place for them to play –but I’m perpetually over-optimistic and pathologically unrealistic about what the radio show can actually book. Harris has pointed this out to me on more than one occasion.

Still, there’s always the chance they’ve finally landed Bob Dylan –someone Larry Groce has wanted forever –or Springsteen or KISS or Slipknot or a hundred other bands that have typically been considered unlikely to play the show even under the best of circumstances.

As always, I’m curious to see what’s coming –and it’s always interesting to see what “Mountain Stage” thinks is something that shouldn’t be missed.

So… tomorrow should be fun? What do you guys think? What would you like to see at the Clay Center and what do you think “Mountain Stage” has planned?
